9th Prince - Revenge
Of The 9th Prince Interview |
 |
When asked to
choose between a promising career in boxing and his love for
hip-hop, 9th Prince didn't think twice about following his
heart. Born on Staten Island, NY, and raised between the
notoriously dangerous neighbourhoods of Brownsville and Bedford
Stuyvesant in Brooklyn, and the state of Ohio, music was always
a major force in his life. The classics his mother played around
the house from Marvin Gaye and Curtis Mayfield to Mtume and
Atlantic Starr - became 9th's first real musical inspiration,
piquing his interest to purse his passions further.
Generally reserved when growing up, 9th Prince's respect for the
classics later spawned an
excitement for real hip-hop; Rakim, KRS-One, The Juice Crew and
Slick Rick were inspirations, and their work encouraged him to
write his first rhyme with Shyheim at the age of 9. At 11, with
his skills more finely tuned, he began performing at local
talent shows, competing against adults more than twice his age,
and yet still holding his own. His talent did not go unnoticed.
RZA (Wu-Tang Clan) - 9th's older brother and one of his 10
siblings - put him in the studio for the first time to record
"Soldiers of Darkness" (1995), with Sunz of Man.
9th Prince later went on to form Killarmy, one of the first ever
groups to be signed under Wu-Tang along side Sunz of Man. At the
age of 20 Prince went on to record along side Dom Pachino, Killa
Sin, Shogun Assassin, Kinetic, Islord and 4th Disciple as
Killarmy for their first album, the critically acclaimed "Silent
Weapons For Quiet Wars"
(1997) with 9th Prince leading the majority of the production
and A&R work. They went on to record 2 more albums together -
Dirty Weaponry
(1998) and
Fear, Love & War
(2001), both of which, much like their predecessor Silent
weapons, had 9th simultaneously acting as artist and producer.
Even with the success of the group, 9th was beginning to
discover his individual voice, and needed an outlet to express
it. In 1999, anxious to show the world his unique perspective,
9th began to contemplate a solo project, and the "Granddaddy
Flow" album
concept was born. Independently released in 2003, Granddaddy
once again successfully merged 9th's skills as an artist with
his resourceful business savvy - he assumed the roles of execute
producer and A&R - to create the quintessential album. The
response to Granddaddy was incredible with 9th being named
independent artist of the month by Source magazine in April 2004
issue.
At the height of Granddaddy flow success, 9th unexpectedly got
incarcerated. Upon release, he emerged stronger than ever with
his highly anticipated follow-up album, "Prince
Of New York".
2009 sees 9th Prince completing his 3rd solo album "Revenge
Of The 9th Prince"
featuring guest appearances from The RZA, Killah Priest, Shyheim,
Planet Asia, Boy Jones, Thea, and his Killarmy comrades. With
album ready to drop early 2010 on Wu Music Group,
Wu-International catches up with the man himself to discuss
about his back and forth fall out with close friend and Killarmy
brother Dom Pachino, his involvement with Gravediggaz project,
RZA, and of course upcoming Killarmy album if any. Enjoy...

Victory Or
Death: The RZA Marks His Twentieth Year In Music With An
Epic Fine Art Release. |
|
 |
STAPLETON PROJECTS,
STATEN ISLAND. Arguably the most infamous housing project of
New York City’s ‘forgotten borough’, known best at the time
for being Earth’s largest landfill. A young Robert Diggs is
hunched over a drum machine, working on his debut release,
the Ooh We Love You Rakeem EP. The weather is a brutal kind
of cold. The year is 1990.
Twenty years later, Robert is the RZA, musical visionary and
mastermind behind one of the most revolutionary movements in
the history of popular culture - and the world is a very
different place. The Wu-Tang Clan rewrote the rules in every
arena it entered, blazing trails in the record business and
singlehandedly giving hip-hop its Renaissance period, during
which it took the genre to artistic heights that remain
unmatched. Kill Bill made RZA a composer. The Wu-Tang Manual
made him an author. American Gangster made him an actor. And
on January 1, 2010, WAIL (When Art Imitates Life)
commemorates twenty years of the RZA with the unveiling of
Victory Or Death, a highly limited fine art release worthy
of a living legend. |
Details about
Victory or Death remain mum as does the conceptual behind
The RZA’s release. What has been promised is a “reworking”
of history onto massive canvas that focuses on the concept
of “hearing the call” and revolution in an inspiring and
provocative way. In total, 360 prints will be available to
the public on the January 1, 2010 release date. When
discussing the upcoming release, The RZA states, “It didn’t
begin 20 years ago…more like 200 years ago. And when you see
the piece we’re making right here, you’re going to know what
I’m talking about. We’re about to rewrite and change
history.”
The origins of Victory Or Death began earlier this year as
RZA started conceptualizing with When Art Imitates Life, a
company focused on creating fine art with musical
visionaries at the helm of the creative. When Art Imitates
Life (WAIL) is owned by legendary hip-hop statesmen Sway and
King Tech of The World Famous Wake Up Show along with
notorious Los Angeles creativity house SceneFour. Victory or
Death is the first release under the WAIL art label.
Interested parties are encouraged to visit
www.whenartimitateslife.com to sign up for exclusive
information on The RZA’s Victory or Death as it develops, as
well as a chance to preview the piece before January 1. |

Dom Pachino
[P.R. Terrorist] - Tera. Iz. Him
(Interview) |
|
 |
Wu-Tang Killarmy's Dom
Pachino [aka P.R. Terrorist] readies a sequel to his first ever
solo outing "Tera. Iz Him"
which was considered a classic, sold out and got reprinted to
sell out numerous times.
Tera. Iz. Him 2
continues the tradition with an enhancement that meets what his
die hard fans have come to expect. For an artist, entrepreneur,
producer, a&r, manager and more, one has to acknowledge that Dom
Pachino is probably one of the most underrated artists in the
game right now. One of the leading members of Killarmy, Dom P's
presence was dominate within a table of highly talented Mcs (9th
Prince, Islord, Shogun Assassin, Kinetic 9, and Killa sin), and
a producer (4th Disciple), probably the most popular member of
the group, without taking anything from the rest of the members,
fans used to debate between him and lyrically sharp Killa Sin to
be the best within the group. First to venture out after the
group's last album, Dom P was the only one holding the Killarmy
flag and Puerto Rican pride within the Wu for a while,
releasing a catalogue of albums, collabos and projects that kept
Killarmy name's alive, up to 210 songs floating around, this man
is rightly fully considered "the hardest working man" in the
business, P has paid all dues and have always been a step ahead
of the game, which in retrospect might not have been beneficial
to his |
|
movement,
especially as its taken his fan a longer time to catch up to
Dom Pachino's brilliance. Seems
people tend to appreciate something when its not
there any more, this could possibly be Dom P's last
ever album? Is the Killarmy reunion ever going to
happen? Is he cool or not with Wu-Tang? all
this answers and more can be found on his new album
"Tera. Iz.
Him part 2, which comes out and can be bought
via his own imprint
Napalm recordings on the 3rd of November 2009
and features the likes of Warcloud aka Holocaust (Westcoast
Wu-Tang Killa Beez), Bronze Nazareth, Killarmy,
Shyheim and his own artists Bugsy Da God and Just Da
Barbar.
As P
prepares to return to the West coast for an
exclusive tour, Wu-International catches up with the
man to find out what goes through the mind of a
Puerto Rican Tera.

William
Cooper [aka Booth] of Black Market Militia - Behold The Pale
Horse
(Interview) |
|
 |
|
"Comfort is
the enemy of progress" are the priceless words that the New
Jersey rapper/producer/A&R, William Cooper aka Booth, has
adopted as his slogan and constant reminder to always keep
pushing his way to the top.
In 2001, the hungry entrepreneur earned a valuable
internship at Steve Rifkind's New York based Loud Records.
During this time Loud was the home to hip-hop giants like
Wu-Tang Clan, Big Pun, Three 6 Mafia, Mobb Deep and Dead
Prez. Booth soon found himself working in Loud's A&R
department under Arelene Delvalle. Here is where the driven
artist learned the ins and outs of the record business and
built valuable relationships.
Not missing a beat, William Cooper teamed up with legendary
rapper Tragedy Khadafi (Juice Crew, Capone-N-Noreaga) to A&R
and produce the critically acclaimed "Still Reporting" LP in
2003. The record featuring the likes of Mobb Deep and more
received overwhelmingly positive reviews and sold over
20,000 records to date through Solid/25 to Life records.
Knowing that timing is everything, Booth did not hesitate to
show that he was much more than a seasoned producer/A&R. He
began showcasing his mc abilities which led to the formation
of the super group "Black Market Militia". BMM is a five
member group that consists of William Cooper, Tragedy
Khadefi and Wu-Tang clan's own Maccabeez lyricists Killah
Priest, Timbo King (Royal Fam) and Hell Razah (Sunz of Man).
The group went on to release two street mixtapes that were
followed by their worldwide self titled debut LP "Black
Market Militia on Nature Sounds records. The LP received
praise from the hip-world and was considered the best
independent release of 2005.
Presently, Cooper has been perfecting his solo début "Beware
Of The Pale Horse" which has taken blood, sweat and more
than 3 years to perfect, and it features his Black Market
Militia comrades, 9th Prince (Killarmy), Nature (The Firm),
Ill Bill, Wu-tang's vocalist Blue Raspberry and more, with
the album dropping on the 20th of October, 2009,
Wu-International caught up with the man to find out why he
has taken him so long to release album, Black Market
movement, conspiracy theories, Obama and music. Enjoy!

Wu-Tang Meets
The Indie Culture Vol. 2: Enter The Dubstep |
 |
FrankRadio and iHipHop Distribution are proud to announce
the highly anticipated follow-up to 2005's "Wu-Tang Meets
The Indie Culture Vol. 1".
On November 10th, the newest and freshest sounds in
underground electronic music encounter the grimiest and most
hardcore hip-hop click in this one-of-a- kind album:
"Wu-Tang Meets The Indie Culture Vol. 2: Enter The Dubstep."
As Vol. 1 sought to introduce hip-hop fans in general, and
specifically, the famously large, loyal and diverse fan-base
of the Wu-Tang to the burgeoning world of underground
hip-hop, so Vol. 2 seeks to expose another untapped resource
of underground talent, skill and artistry to this very same
avid and intrepid fan-base. |
The project serves a
double purpose as well: many of the pioneers and
practitioners (DJ's and producers) in the Dubstep world came
up in a time when Wu-Tang ruled the international airwaves.
Unlike much commercial hip-hop, the immediacy of Wu-Tang's
sound spoke to many outside of the scope of the typical
hip-hop fan, across oceans and at home. Their music and
style helped to shape an emerging artform that hadn't yet
defined itself. Now, in 2009, as dubstep continues to grow,
expand and encompass more styles and subgenres, the Wu-Tang
sound is reintroduced into the mix, to spawn a new and
unique musical crossbreeding, that is greater than the sum
of its constituent parts.
This groundbreaking album is trail-blazing the collaboration
between Dubstep and Hip-Hop, with stomach-pounding,
bass-thumping guttural beats, and gully, gritty and grimy
lyrics that break into the next decade in the chapters of
each respective genre's history. With Scuba, Parson,
Trillbass, Dakimh, DZ, Rogue Star, Stenchman, Datsik & many
more producing not remixes, but complex re-interpollations
that include a veritable goldmine of Wu-Tang verses from the
vaults that feature Raekwon, Ghostface Killa, RZA, GZA,
Method Man, U-God and
Masta Killa, Wu affiliates Killah Priest, Bronze Nazareth,
Prodigal Sunn, Solomon Childs, Son One & more, and guest
spots from Busta Rhymes, MF Doom, Pimp C, Three 6 Mafia, Ras
Kass, Vast Aire, Canibus, Lord Jamar and many more, this one
of a kind compilation is at the forefront of an emerging
cultural and musical blend that is taking place on the
margins of the mainstream, but will be talked about
for years to come....
