For three weeks now every Wu related blog or forum has been
discussing and posting opinions on Rae’s new album as if
their lives depended on it. Fans are going back and forth on
topics such as the lyrics, the type of beats, song titles,
the kung fu samples, the features, whether this album is
better than OBFCL II or not, if Rae delivered as promised
when he first mentioned this project after the 8 Diagrams
dispute …
To be honest I’ve been keeping away from all of that since
it started, to keep my view on “Shaolin vs Wu Tang”
unaffected. Once the album arrived I grabbed some essential
provisions, hung a “Do NOT disturb” sign at my Wu Cave,
kissed the Mrs. and kids goodbye and went underground with
it for about two weeks … to resurface this morning with the
finished review ( and some strange rash on my back from
sleeping on my “not-so-ergonomic-as-expected-pile of moss”).
Where the new album stands in comparison to OBFCL I and
whether “OBFCL II” or “Shaolin vs Wu tang” can now be
labeled ‘best post OBFCL’ album from Raekwon are things that
really have to wait to be answered fairly. The only question
that I needed to get answered during my stay in Caveland was
if Rae had managed to follow up his comeback album OBFCL II
with another solid release …

Popa
Chief - The Last Of The Mohicanz Interview |
|
“Hard
work, dedication, perseverance, and devotion, a
solid foundation on which to build a successful
empire!” These are words used by great men to
inspire greatness. One such person who fits these
shoes is Popa Chief.
Born in Fla, raised in the garden state, music
always fuelled his soul. His first love was
deejaying. A few years later all attention was
turned to his new love, emceeing. Dropping his first
project “The
Warpath EP" under the name Courageous Chief
through Stone Creek label, the same label that
housed the likes of then R&B heavyweights Boyz II
Men.
The label unfortunately folded just before it
was Popa Chief's turn to drop a project leaving the
Chief with no kingdom to govern. He kept
himself busy by touring and working with
some of the biggest acts in the 90's ranging from
the likes of Biz Markie, KRS-One, Brand Nubian, Kool
G Rap, Poor righteous Teachers, Black Sheep and much more. |
 |
|
It was not long before Popa Chief started forming
close alliance and affiliations with other
established artists, resulting in him becoming a
member of Ol' Dirty Bastard's extended Brooklyn Zu
family; The Zu-Ninjaz, with this sprung different
projects resulting in Popa Chief and the original
Drunk'n Masta himself ODB (RIP) forming a group
together called D.R.U.G.G. (Dirty Rotten Underground Grymmiez)
alongside the likes of 12 'O'Clock, and Master Fuol.
Unfortunately the project never materialised past
few recorded demo songs and collaborations before ODB passed away.
Popa
Chief has gone on to release a number of solo albums
independently, a group album with Zu Ninjaz and
featured on the Brooklyn Zu "Chamber #9, Verse 32” in
2008. The sky seems to be the limit for this
courageous chief as he toured with The almighty
Wu-Tang Clan on the 8 Diagram Tour as well as
getting his name out there. There is a wealth of
unlimited talent and the world should get ready for
the new hot releases to come from Popa Chief and
his new label "Burnt Biskut productz". Its a new
year and a new way to re-introduce the last of the
Mohicanz via this exclusive Wu-International
interview.... Enjoy!

Attention all
ye bookmakers : If Bugsy Da God will get our “Album of the

However, the odds that the “Sample of the year” award (*) is
his’ … now that’s something I’m willing to put quite some
money on. Another thing I’m willing to bet some of my hard
earned Euro’s on is that none of the people who purchase
this album, will want their money back after listening … for
the following reasons:

This album was completed
originally as a demo to present to showcase us as individual
artists as well as in the group – Watchmen. We really wanted
it to reach RZA specifically, but somehow that never
happened, and we took a break until the double CD. Some of
us knew each other through previous projects, etc. but
became a group due to our love for the grimy style of
hip-hop we do. That is a rarity where we live in South
Florida. The Power album was basically written and recorded
in about a week one summer in 2006. All of our tracks were
done by Black’s friend and producer, Analog. We thought his
sound was perfect for what we were trying to do at the time.
So, we got together at BlackMask’s house every day to bounce
ideas off each other , write, and eventually record our
vocals (in his bathroom). We’ve come a long way since then!
In hindsight,
POWER is quite a bit rougher than our double CD. Listening
to it now, we all hear small imperfections and things we
would have liked to change – as most artists usually do
after a project is done. But overall, I think it’s a great
reflection of our roots in being strictly lyrical and just
loving real hip hop music. We have plenty more where that
all came from. BULLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After our well
received first Resident Viewpoint on Bugsy Da God’s “The
Terrorist’s Advocate”, we present to you our second
installment today . We were lucky to sit down with Kevlaar 7
to hear what he had to say about the “Who got the camera” EP
he released digitally last week. But before we had a look at
the tracks we asked Kevlaar 7 why he, being a promising
upcoming producer himself, decided to mainly work with
outside production on this EP and here is what he had to
say;
“Being a producer myself, and also trying to make a name
as an Executive producer as well, I decided to use a team of
producers from all over the world on “Who got the camera?”.
I thought it was important because of the concept of a
highly politicized, militant, and revolutionary album, and
these problems are not confined to the United States. There
are revolutions and conflicts going on all over the world,
so I thought it was appropriate. The challenge that I DID
have was making sure that all of the joints came together
well over the course of the album, and I pulled it off. As
far as the producer I got Zakat from Santa Cruz, California;
Bronze Nazareth from Gun rule/Detroit, Mi; Colonna from
Paris, France; Central Intelligence from Albuquerque, New
Mexico; Woodenchainz from La Porte, Indiana; Paragone and BP
from Brooklyn, New York; Endemic from Nottingham, UK; and
Lastchild Musik from Providence, Rhode Island…also Iron
Braydz who blessed “Black Heroin”, is from London…”
With its
revolutionary content the least one can say is the timing of
this EP’s release is remarkable when looking at the news
bulletins the last weeks . To make sure everyone got the
message in this EP in full Kevlaar 7 agreed on sharing the
full lyrics to this EP with the fans through
Wu-International. So be sure to check the lyrics too after
reading Kevlaar 7’s Resident viewpoint on “Who got the
camera”.. Enjoy !

The start of 2011 saw Wu
International giving birth to a new section called The Spotlite, where we aim at giving new projects from Wu Tang/Fam
artists the attention they deserve . We are glad to announce
we are already setting up another new section for the fans
called "Residents Viewpoint".
In this new section we want to take a look at albums from a
totally different angle: we are letting the artists
themselves shine their light on the creation of their album.
Track by track they get the chance to give fans inside info,
tell us what inspired the song, who was involved and how it
came to be or just share a crazy, funny or interesting
anecdote . This has been done before in the past on other
sites but only on few occasions. We hope to make these type
of write ups a regular addition here on Wu-International
with help from the artists. Already several have shown
interest in adding on to this and we are proud to present
you the first one today with Bugsy Da God's viewpoint on his
debut album: "The Terrorist Advocate". Bugsy's album is
scheduled to be released on the first of March and is
overseen by his mentor Dom Pachino. If you want to get an
idea of what we can expect from this album then don't
hesitate and start reading. Enjoy!

Since
we are posting the Leggezin Fin interview this week,
a review of his album “Precisao"
was
only logical. This album dates back to 2004, is
entirely produced by the man himself and is
unfortunately a frustratingly impossible find for
Wu-collectors (or people interested after reading
our interview). As gathered in
this interview, Leggezin prefers to rap in his
own language rather than in English, which is brave
but also a bit tricky. Even with knowledge of French
and Spanish one can hardly recognize or link a word
here and there throughout the album. So a rap
album in Portuguese might scare off a lot of
listeners. They can’t be more wrong. To prove this
and as this is rather a short album, we’ll be going
through this track per track. But first I have to
admit my Portuguese is as good as my Chinese so I’ll
have to focus on the music and the feel I get of it
instead. I did take the liberty of consulting
Mr and Mrs G. Oogle/Translations about the track
titles so I had at least somewhat an idea what the
songs are about.

Leggezin
Fin - The African Killa Bee
Interview |
|

Leggezin fin is a
native of Angola, Africa. He began his musical career during his
stay in Coimbra, Portugal and became a member of the group
Acropole as a rapper and producer. During his educational
studies in Los Angeles, he opened a label Maggnata Productions
and released his first single in 2001 as a solo artist titled "Globo
Terrestre" which led to a full length CD that was only
distributed in Angola, Africa. In 2003 Leggezin had the chance
to meet Wu-Tang affiliate Prodigal Sunn from Sunz of Man fame
and they hit it off immediately. Sunzini was amazed by the
incredible talent, raw energy and Leggezin's innovative
beats that he signed him to his company GODz Inc entertainment
as a producer. After putting in much work on the label
Prodigal Sunn got him initiated into the Wu-Tang Killa Beez. In
2004 Leggezin released his solo project called "
Precisao”
with the hit single "Universal soldier" featuring Prodigal
Sunn. The album also featured Wu- tang mastermind THE RZA. In
2005 he was credited for producing the hit "Campaign" from “The
Return of the Prodigal Sunn”. He released a brilliant 4
track album for his loyal fan base including the first single
"Afro Killa Beez" with his Wu comrades Kinetic 9 and Shogun
Assassin from Killarmy, Prodigal Sun and new comer Chi-King. Not
one to miss a talent, in addition to taking him on tour, The RZA
also got Leggezin involved on the
Afro Samurai:
Resurrection soundtrack on the song "Take The Sword Part 3"
as well as giving him more than 3 features on The Achozen project alongside himself, Shavo, Beretta 9, and Reverend William Burk.
While pursuing a
career as an architect at university, Leggezin's main
focus right now is putting the final touches to his first compilation
"U.F.F. (Uniao Faz a Forsa) which translates as “Union Brings
Power” and is titled "Tu es o Futuro" (You are the future) in
Portuguese. This album combines the great eclectic mix of Maggnata productions, Leggezin, and Kinetic 9 with guest
appearances by WU members and many others. Leggezin is also
scheduled to release his extraordinary debut album late 2010
amongst other projects he is working on, so find out more about
the first African (Not African American, but from the motherland
Africa) Killa Bee to affiliated with the Wu... Enjoy!

The
Spot Lite Section / The FortySeven
|
|
Happy
Wu Year 2011.
Wu-International is introducing a new section on the
site called "The
Spot Lite" under the
Miscellaneous section. This part
will mainly cover or introduce new Wu-Tang groups, Offshoots or project(s) that were either
missed, slept on, oblivious to the
die hard fans or just brand new with a great potential.
This will be an opportunity to introduce the older fans
to these new acts or the new fans to acts from back in
the day; to revisit projects or groups
that have been shelved or disbanded and stretching out
to side projects that involves Wu-Tang or affiliated
members. This section will be updated on a monthly basis
more or less as long there is news to cover. Contributions from fans, artists and readers are
more welcomed. Please feel free to send in any
links, write ups or inform us of any news that might
fall into this section, full credit will be given for
any form of contribution.

|
|
THE FORTYSEVEN
To set this section and New Year off,
allow us to introduce you to the group called "The
FortySeven". Most should already know who Master Fuol is
by now? Ol' Dirty Bastard's Protégé who was also in the
same group with ODB,
12 'O' Clock and Poppa Chief
called D.R.U.G.S
(Dirty Rotten Underground
GrimmieS) that never kicked off. More can be found on the
interview
we had with him in 2007. Since the release of his album
"Brownsville
Kid: ERAM" not much has been
heard from this Lyricist Lounge regular.
A couple of years back, I stumbled across
Master Fuol's new group called The FortySeven by
accident, and ever since I have been following their movement.
Late last year they dropped an album (most might not know
about) called "The
Day The Sun Bled".
|
 |
|
So who are the FortySeven? What I do know
is that their album
"The
Day The Sun Bled"
was recorded in
two weeks (16 Songs) and it's apparently a "once in a lifetime"
collective as there are no intentions of a
follow-up to the group or this project.
The group
is composed of six members (2 DJ's & 4 emcees), DJ Illnaughty, DJ Remode, Master Fuol, Hochii,
Monk the Liverfish and Swiss Precise. They
are the answer to today's contrived flossy-floss,
studio-gangster, candy-coated rap music. The FortySeven
isn't trying to conform to the masses in the least;
they're as grimey as it gets in the way rap music used
to be.
Somehow, groups today have forgotten about hip hop from the
early to mid 90's, and the dirty, raw, esthetic sound it
provided but The FortySeven's mission at hand is to
deliver it right to your front door. They encompass the
grime and grit and are not apprehensive to get their
mics dirty.
Their sound is a much needed return to the days of hard rockin',
head-bangin' boom bap! Something that can be enjoyed by
fans who are into hardcore production and savvy,
in-depth lyricism.
The collective's individual accomplishments are enough
to comprise a book, but that's not important right now,
the past is the past and The FortySeven is now! Take
some time out to research and know more about this
group, Enjoy! |

Invincible Temple - Becoming the Temple (The Prequel)
|
 |
After promoting LCOB’s ever expanding crew
with two mixtapes, Cuban-Linx decided to shed some light now
on Invincible Temple . This group consists of Golden
Mastah,Jade Lohan, Last Bronzeman and Lord Subliminal and
was formerly part of Futurechamber. They appeared on
“Futurechamber Presents : Bi-Polar The After Effect” and
released an Ep with Sound Survivors called “Tree of Life”.
Now CLX teamed up with Golden Mastah for this new
compilation . The man dug deep in the group's archives and
even agreed on adding several exclusive tracks to this free
dl, tracks that were never put on Youtube or Myspace before.
The result is the free release “Becoming The Temple The
Prequel”.
Credits go to Golden Mastah for agreeing on making this
happen, Supashroomz (CLX) for compiling and Armz Grafikz (CLX)
who did the Artwork.

LA The Darkman - Interview
|
[23rd.
December. 2010]
New Update:
|
DJ
Extremidiz - Hood Scriptures: Chapter 2
Interview |
|

Today we hit you
again with some more "Hood
Scripturez" . As the project was evenly divided between
Shabazz and Dj Extremediz, it wouldn't be fair to direct all our
attention to just Shabazz . Hence why we come with Chapter 2 of
our Hood Scripturez interview. While the focus on Monday was
more on the themes of the album and all things Shabazz, today we
dive into the world of beatmaking alongside DJ Extremediz. The
man behind the boards seems to have come out of nowhere, if
people knew his name at all, it was because they had seen the
announcement of the (back then still) collaborative EP with
Shabazz.
DJ Extremidiz is
an underground DJ / producer from Canada. Vernon, B.C is where
he got his roots in the hip hop world. Started djing in high
school and got some tech1200s and a mixer and began his journey
through dusty crates and moldy pawn shops digging for old vinyl
and collecting samples for his beats. Spending most his time
scratching and beat juggling with fellow DJ's he developed his
own style and approach to turntablism and production. While in
his earlier years he mostly made mixtapes, played clubs and
parties and occasional battles, now in recent years he has spent
most his time in the lab working on albums, collaborations with
other artists and building up his record label, Metal Barz.
An initial collaboration on the song "Hood Sellasie" with Sunz
of Man/Gravediggaz member Shabazz the Disciple some years ago
sparked a mutual respect and admiration between both artists
that eventually resulted to them working on more songs. More
songs led to a planned EP which inevitably lead to the full
album "Hood
Scripturez" which dropped in November 4th of this year. The
album is basically Shabazz at his best with his versatile rhyme
styles, deep concepts and metaphorical parables laced with DJ
Extremidiz grimey beats and cuts to fit the package to a great
result as this album is already nominated to be one of
Wu-Internationals "Best albums of the year".
Ex has also worked
with numerous MC's and producers worldwide such as: Hell Razah,
Freestyle & Dstroy, Gage and Click Animosity, Tame One, Krohme,
The Seekz Monster, LCOB artists, Beretta 9, Celph Titled and
many more. Currently working on his debut album "Weapon Ex
Project", numerous side projects for Metal Barz as well as the
second instalment of "Hood Scripturez" with Shabazz, you can
expect to hear a lot from The Exorcist in the next coming
years!! Find out how this DJ from Canada connected with Shabazz
from Red Hooks, New York, to create a master piece and much more
about the DJ, producer and visionary... Enjoy!!

Shabazz
The Disciple - Hood Scriptures: Chapter I
Interview |
 |
Would it be too
bold to say that Shabazz and Dj Extremidiz have a serious
contender for Wu-International’s “Album of the Year” with their
collabo ‘Hood
Scripturez’? Maybe (not) but one thing is for sure: we had
to be extremely patient to hear this album as we first heard of
this project 5 years ago.
They say "All good things come to those that wait", Shabazz and
DJ Extremidiz finally dropped "Hood
Scripturez" digitally on the 4th of November via Metal Barz
records with the physical release planned for
sometime this December. |
Last
week’s
review already said it: it is a very strong
collection of no less than 29 tracks, filled with
thought provoking lyrics and great beats. While
others seek their inspiration in a wild variety of
producers and a very crowdy guest list, these two
brought it back to the essence: one man behind the
mic and another behind the boards. Let’s hope we
will see more of this in the near future in our
beloved (W)universe as the end result here was
impressive.
Now that the album is finally out we thought it
would be the perfect moment for an interview with
Shabazz The Disciple. Not alone did we want to find
out how this collabo came to be, why it took so long
to come out and how the recording went. We also
tried to get to know something more about his
notoriously, unreleased back catalogue (which is
apparently 7 albums deep). And it goes without
saying we had to ask him about all the Gravediggaz-reunion
rumours that been circling around now for a while as
well as his Wu-Tang and Sunz of Man's affiliation.
It' been a while fans saw Shabazz with the RZA
together on a song, what about his Thug Angelz
project with Hell Razah? Well grab a comfort seat,
switch off the lights, throw in a Gravediggaz tape,
CD, or Mp3 and flip through the chapters of this
Wu-International exclusive Shabazz interview ...
Enjoy!!
