THE COMMITTEE

[West Coast Killa Beez Series #7]

Interview Date: June 2010

Interview

A committee (or "commission") is a type of small deliberative assembly that is usually intended to remain subordinate to another, larger deliberative assembly. The Committee in question is a group of artists who have grown up together and came together out of their mutual respect and love for the music and art form and the larger deliberative assembly mentioned is that of the West Coast Killa Beez.  Commonly referred to Homicidal Committee due to their ability to wreck havoc on the microphone, The Committee mainly consists of  The Arsinest aka Leathafase, Rah Arsenal and the remaining members from the Black Knights (Crisis The Sharpshooter and Rugged Monk).

Without going into too much details about the Black Knights and the West Coast Killa Beez movement again (If you are not up on game as to who the West Coast finest are by now then you shouldn't be reading this, do your research first), The Committee will be the first group out of Black Ball'd Entertainment to drop an album after the Black Knight's "All Skillz, No Luck" is released. The group has steadily been building a rep and name for themselves with features on numerous projects, tours, and local shows. With over 10 years in the game as students of The RZA, the Black Knights have grown, established their own movement and have extended their hands out to recruit and join forces with talents that have been around but never had the opportunity to showcase their skills until now. Like actual killer  bees, collectively the Black Ball'd entertainment has sparked sparked a West Coast renaissance that is ready to sting the world fatally and we are not just talking about the rap game, like Wu-Tang Clan and what the RZA did, they are also building their own empire that houses raw talents from emcees, to business men, R&B singers, producers, video production and much more.

The knowledge, skills and experience of Black Knights is more than god enough to know that anything they endorse is solid gold; meaning, they would not just join forces or support anything that was not of quality or high standard that they have adhered to over these years, lyrically and musically speaking. This automatically suggests that the less familiar names to the fans (Arsenal and Arsinest) have something outstanding to offer to this movement as well as the game, don't just take our word for it, proof they say is in the pudding, listen to their music and you can see why Crisis and Monk teamed up  with these two gifted wordsmiths to form The Committee, their  combined witty styles, ill word play and knowledge of the culture is what makes them stand out from the rest of the groups in the game and will enable them to move this new movement forward to a higher height.

Find out more about the history of the Committee, formation, upcoming projects, and much more on this exclusive Interview which is part of the Westcoast Killa Beez series currently running on the site. Enjoy!!

I like to say thanks first and foremost for taking the time to answer these questions, highly appreciated, and will also point out that nothing will be altered, edited or changed when this is published online.

Wu-International: Peace Arsinest, how are you?
Tha Arsinest: Peace, What up, what's good Wu Intl? A yo I’m feeling good, excellent right now. Excuse me on the delay on getting back with you guys I had to check all my traps, ya digg? {Laughs}

Wu-International: For those that do not know you could you please introduce your self, tell us your name, where you are from, affiliations etc?
Tha Arsinest: Yo, I go by the name Tha Arsinest, AKA Leatherface, Tha Hennessy man, AKA E-Lance coming straight out the West Coast Long Beach, California to be exact, reppin that Black Ball’d Ent.

Wu-International: How did the name come about?
Tha Arsinest:  I would say the name speaks for itself that’s pertaining to any mic I’m close to. Leatherface is just a murderer of Mc’s in the underground world of Hip Hop and few main stream rappers also. {Laughs}

Wu-International: Who are the Committee, can you please list everybody that is part of this group?

Tha Arsinest: The committee is my squad, the original group off of Black Ball’d which consists of Rah Arsenal, The Black Knights (Crisis tha sharpshooter and The Rugged Monk) and then there's myself Tha Arsinest.

Wu-International:  We have been hearing that name for a while now, why are you called Homicidal Committee? ?
Tha Arsinest: The name comes from just rhyme battles. Our whole crew would do it pretty good against other Mc’s. The Committee half of the name is of course a group of people coming together for a common cause, which is to win.

Wu-International: How did the formation of the group come about and how long have you all been making music collectively as the Committee?
Tha Arsinest: Well, me and Tha sharpshooter came up with the name. We started this rap shit together and it just seemed perfect to bring in our brothers the Rugged monk and Rah Arsenal in the mix. Its history in the making.

Wu-International: How would you differentiate each member and what does each member have to bring to the Committee table?
Tha Arsinest: It would to take a lifetime t o pinpoint each member's impression on the group. Everyone compliments each other. We’re all uniquely abstract to each other. Each holds their own in the freshest way, ya digg? Lets just say our names describes us to the T.

Wu-International: So how did you all meet The Black Knights and got musically involved?
Tha Arsinest: We’re family. We all grew up together as kids. We know each other’s families,  Brothers, I trust these guys with my life. The music was destined to be.

Wu-International: On recent interview, Crisis pointed out that The Committee would be the first to drop an album from Black Ball’d entertainment, how far gone is this album and when do you plan to release it?

Tha Arsinest:
Committee is the first thing off of Black Ball’d, which is in the making now. It will be our second independent album. It should be complete second quarter of next year along with many other projects off of Balck Ball’d, like Lou U, Big Sup, P.Dot, First Lady, Bills Benjamin, Black Knights black whole album Ft. Myself and the Black Ball’d compilation.

Wu-International: What can the fans expect from a Committee album?

Tha Arsinest: Real hip hop, good music.

Wu-International: Any featured guests you would like to share with us on the album right now?
Tha Arsinest:
Well we’re going to make the album mostly us. We got a lot to say. But like I said its still in the making. If there is any featured guests it will be a real treat for the hip hop heads.

Wu-International: Do you have a working title for the album yet?
Tha Arsinest: No not yet, we have to sit down on it.

Wu-International: You said earlier that this will be your second album if not mistaken, or will it be your first?
Tha Arsinest: As a group, yes, it will be our first, but we have individually been on numerous independent albums and mix tapes.

Wu-International: Ok, but you said something about a first independent album?
Tha Arsinest:
We have a self titled underground album made for the streets.

Wu-International: Any reason as to why it is taking you long to put something out commercially on a CD as it seems the group has been together for a while now?
Tha Arsinest:
Real life has been the delay for us. But it has also been the reason we connected back together to make it happen. Its our time now.

Wu-International: Saw the video for Go Hard/Turn it up, really nice, is that your first single or more like an introduction to the fans?
Tha Arsinest: Turn it up was actually off the self titled street album. But I would say that it is an introduction to the take over as well.

Wu-International: Thanks, the group will be featured on the upcoming Black Knights album “All Skillz No Luck” what songs were you featured on and what do you have to say about the knights album?
Tha Arsinest: The Committee will be on "Go Hard" of course and "Surprise" produced by High Life. I think the album is phenomenal. It’s a well constructed masterpiece. It takes you into an area of hip hop where I feel the game is out of tune with.

Wu-International: Did you personally know or meet Doc Doom (R.I.P.), and if so what do you have to say about him?
Tha Arsinest:
I’ve known Doc Doom since I was a young’n before the rap game. He was an older homie from the clique. A mastermind on and off the mic, a real one.

Wu-International: Alright, thanks for those questions, your group is pretty much part of the Westcoast Killa Beez collective, a title that most would kill for to be associated with the legacy of the Wu-Tang movement, how does that make you feel?
Tha Arsinest:
Just to be affiliated with such raw talent that has branded and influenced so many people and changed lives in the hip hop game, including mine is amazing. It is truly an honour to be part of history.

Wu-International: Have the group worked with The RZA or any other members of the Clan yet?

Tha Arsinest: Collectively as a group, no. The Black Knight’s half of the group and they work with Rza constantly

Wu-International:  Ok, any of its members planning or working on a solo project?

Tha Arsinest: Yes, we’re all pretty much working on solo projects and mixing up as duos. Look out for Tha Arsinest Leatherface solo. Also, I have an album named the AA meeting that’s Tha Arsinest and Arsenal and currently working on Tha Arsinest and Crisis Tha Sharpshooter project called B.A.G (Bullets and Gasoline).

Wu-International: Thanks for the time and answers, do you have anything else to share with the fans that has not already been covered?

Tha Arsinest: Black Ball’d is a movement, do it on the go gettin it, failing is not an option for us. Stay tuned……

Wu-International: One last thing, how can the fans keep up to date with the Committee?
