The common
definition of "Individual" is either that of a being
or characteristic of a single thing or person, or
separate and distinct from others of the same kind.
Regardless of how you want to see it, The West Coast
Killa Beez group known as The Indovizualz consist of
Ichie Palmz, Poison Ivy and Legend and are based out
of Southern California, LA and they described the
name to mean 'A solo artist as a Group", meaning
various flows, styles and contribution from various
parties within a unit as a team to make music that
is 100% sparked by the beat or music itself. The
group members do not consider themselves as rappers
but emcees and stay away from words like rap acts as
coined within the industry.
Indovizualz are
the first group of its kind within the Wu-Tang
family tree, and while it is easy to compare them to
the likes of say Fugees and Digable Planets due to
the structure of the group (One femcee and two male
emcees), this type of formation is still a rare one in hip-hop.
While Poison, Legend and Ichie Palmz are on the
forefront and carrying the name, Indovizualz is also
a larger and bigger family which has been in
existence for over 15 years now. The group's leader
Legend was around when the Black Knights were signed
with by The RZA but missed out due to a number of
reasons covered in this interview. A couple of years
and missed opportunities, Legend recouped, got his
group back on again, connected with the Black
Knights and the Indovizualz have not looked back
since then. Playing a vital part on the resurgence
of the West Coast Killa Beez (also known as Killa
Bee Gang), the Indovizualz kept it moving and did it
moving with a number of collaborations, shows, side
projects and events as well as independently
releasing the successful and highly sort after debut
album in 2009 "D.I.M
K.I.M = Do It Move'n Keep It Move'n" which
featured the likes of Black Knights, Dexter Wiggles,
The Committee, Warcloud and so on. From the art work
to the selection of beats, topics, styles displayed
on the album it is evident the group went out of
their way to show and prove that they were far from
a one dimensional style group and had something
unique to contribute to the Killa Bee Gang, West
Coast, Hip-hop, and music in general.
Having aligned
themselves with Black Knights and the Black Ball'd
movement, Wu-International caught up with each
member of the Indovizualz as part of the West Coast
Killa Beez Interview Series to find out how the
group started, what they are currently working on,
the album "D.I.M.
K.I.M", their affiliation to the Wu and every
thing else the fans have been writing and emailing
to find out about the group,
Enjoy!!! |
I like to say thanks first and foremost for
taking the time to answer these questions, highly
appreciated, and will also point out that nothing will be
altered, edited or changed when this is published online.
Wu-International: Peace, can you please introduce
yourselves to he fans, your names, where you are from etc?
Legend: The group members currently are Legend
from Long Beach Ca, Ichie Palmz from Gardena Ca, and Poison
Ivy from Long Beach Ca.
Wu-International:
Why do you call yourselves The Indovizualz?
Legend: The name Indovizualz comes from the
word Individual which to us means Solo artist as a group
Legend came up with the meaning but the group name came from
a former member in the group. We chose that meaning so
artist that join the group can be themselves bring their own
creative energy to the table, but also be part of the bigger
family without anyone holding them back from future work or
solo projects.
Wu-International:
When and how did the formation of the group come about?
Legend: The original group started over 15
years ago with Legend's cousin Hexagon, Gifted 1, and Lucky
Lazarus they all left the group due to various life
circumstances but are always considered Indovizualz but
currently they are not working in the music industry. Later
Legend added Ichie Palmz into group he's been in over 12
years and then Savage was added as a member who later quit
the group as well. Poison Ivy was added to the group around
2003 while I was Locked up for a few years. After my return
in 2004 all Indovizualz had a meeting to set the flow and
direction of the group all members attended the meeting
except Gifted 1. No one was kicked out of the group the
others members moved on willingly. Once an Indovizualz
always an Indovizualz!!!!! But like I said due to lifes
circumstances the other members chose not to continue the
pursuit of the dream. So after the dust settled the group
now consists of just the three members Ichie Palmz, Posion
Ivy, and Legend. We are the the frontline of the group and
always will be!
Wu-International: Two males and a female emcees, some
might want to compare the group to Digable Planets or Fugees,
what attracted the three of you together and do you all get
along?
Legend: We we're simply attracted to each other
by being the most dedicated members of the Indovizualz and
that drive has drawn us to being a close family. And yes we
get along extremely well loyalty and respect for each member
is the code we live. (TRUTH)
Wu-International: While most rap groups tend not to
have lead members, one is usually dominant or usually on the
forefront taking most of the responsibilities for the group,
just like RZA is to Wu-Tang and Q-tip is to ATCQ, who is The
Abbott of The Indovizualz?
Ichie Palmz: Legend
Wu-International:
What does each member bring to the table and how do you all
differ?
Ichie Palmz: Legend; he
brings various flow styles & is one of the main creative
forces behind the movement he's also a song writer as well
as producer he produced four tracks on the album and
co-wrote all hooks with me except on one track.
Poison Ivy: Ichie
Pamlz; the other creative force behind the Indovizualz, he's
a song Writer with various flow styles as well. He's also
Legend's right hand man one of the only true Generals left
in the Indovizualz.
Legend:
Poison Ivy; We call her our secret weapon of the
Indovizualz she has an awesome voice and a clean tight flow
style most definitely different then most female mc's in the
game. She has a gift and a glow about herself that shines
through on the album and especially on stage.
We all differ because we have different styles that merge as
one we don't force shit to work it just does that's the
beauty of the Indovizualz we all just do our own thing on
the mic then
we blend it like a perfect drink!
Wu-International:
Thanks, how did the group become part of the West coast
Killa Beez?
Ichie Palmz:
Through the Black Knights Legend was
raised in Long Beach and he knows all the OG West Coast
killa Beez Including North Star & Warcloud. Legend was
always around the Knights when they first signed with The
RZA and Wu-tang but caught a case early 1999 so the
Indovizualz missed some of the major events back then
because Legend is the link to the West Coast Killa Beez for
the Indovizualz, we are all back and ready to give the fans
what they want
Wu-International: Any entrance to the extensive and
prestigious Wu family tree usually has to be orchestrated or
endorsed by The RZA or any of the current living generals,
has the group got the ok from The RZA?
Legend: Like we said, we came in through the Black
Knights who work directly with The RZA. RZA show's all of
the Killa Beez family love & he is truly a humble and great
leader we'll back him for life WU-TANG FOREVER!!!!
 |
Wu-International: So what is the group’s current
relationship with The RZA and when can the fans see
a collabo between you and him or any of the generals
for that matter?
Legend: We connect with RZA, with the
Black Knights whenever he's in town for events and
like I said (Legend) I've know him since 1999 a
collabo is in our future fo sho, when? that's another
story but we are looking forward to working with the OG Members of the Wu-Tang Clan it all depends on
timing and current projects they have going on so I
can't really speak on when it will come about but
look out for it fo sho!!!!
Wu-International: Apart from having the Wu
emblem on your chest, what would you say
differentiates a West coast Killa Bee from other
emcees from the West coast?
Legend:
Lyrics!!! The
masses of people seem to think we're just all
gangsta rap out here on the west although we all
come from the streets it's alot deeper then just the
hood so we offer a wide range of lyrics to give the
people want they want to hear. |
Wu-International: What does it take to become a West
coast Killa Bee?
Legend: Hard Work, Dedication, & Commitment
Wu-International: The foundation are Black Knights,
Northstar and Warcloud, but there have steadily been a new
breed of additional emcees and groups to this click, can you
please give us a full list of all the Killa Bee Gang
members?
Legend: Black Knights, Northstar, Warcloud,
Indovizualz, Homicidal Commitee,Dexter Wiggles,P Dot C
Period, Big Supa, Lou Urias, Eternal, White Mike, Pesha the
first Lady of Black Ball, and Spade those are the names off
the head any other names would have to be stated by the
Black Knights but that's the official K.B.G
Wu-International: What are The Indovizualz bringing
into the K.B.G that is not already represented by Black
Knights, Warcloud or Northstar?
Legend: First off a female Mc and we're just
the group that goes a little deeper into other types of
music and our album will show that. Our album has a broad
range of styles and tracks
Wu-International:
Apart from geographical difference, what would you say
distinguishes the West coast Beez from the East coast Beez?
Legend: Nothing we're all One Family under the
W.
Wu-International:
Prior to joining the W, where the three of you fans of the
group and if so who were you individual favorites and why?
Legend: We all loved Wu-Tang Clan before we met
them, shit who doesn't love the Wu!!!. I like the whole Clan
because they are the hardest rap group ever but my
favourites are RZA, Meth, Ghost & of course ODB r.i.p!!!!!!!
Ichie Palmz:
Method Man, cause he's
east coast with a west coast vibe.
Poison Ivy:
Method Man because I
likes his flow style and energy he brings to the stage.
Wu-International: Thanks for those answers, let’s
move back on to the group, you have an album out, D.I.M.
K.I.M, can you please break down the meaning of that please
and why you have titled it D.I.M. K.I.M?
Legend: D.I.M K.I.M means Do it Move'n Keep it
Move'n that's the code no matter what happens keep push'n
past any problems or issues that's the "Art of the D.I.M
K.I.M".
Wu-International: What is or was the release date of
the album?
Legend: 4-20-09 is the official release date it
will be available on CDbaby.net & Itunes etc......
Wu-International: Says the album is a Digi
pack? Can you please tell us more about the album, as in how
many songs, featured guests and producers etc?
Ichie Palmz: 16 songs and we got most of the West
Coast Killa Beez on the album Black Knights, War Cloud,
Dexter Wiggles, Homicidal Committee, Jeff Timmons from 98
degrees, C Bone Jones, Shelly Boop, Stone, Lover B and the
Producers are Steve Dang, Nfin8, Rick Rude, & Dave and Jay
Productions cop the digi pack it's a collectible!!!!!
Wu-International: Tell us more about the song
you done with Warcloud called “fright night” please?
Legend: Yeah we got a hot track from Steve Dang
got our boy Warcloud to come to the studio and we all just
wrote our verses for the song right on the spot and recorded
it in a couple of hours, the song title comes from a part in
Legends verse no hook just straight Lyrics feel me!!!!
Wu-International: What label is behind this project?
Legend: Equality Records (Indie)
Wu-International: Do you have any songs that stand
out for any member of the group that you would like
to share with the fans?
Ichie Palmz: My verse's on "Devil's laugh",
"Global Warning" & "Fright Night"
Poison Ivy: "Can this
be real" is my stand out verse.
Legend: I would say my verse on The Sword and
the song's we all think are sleeper hit's on the
album Is "My Life"& "So Cold". |
 |
Wu-International: You have pretty much kept the
production in house, was that a conscious choice and if so
why?
Legend: Not Really we just went with the tracks
we all had a feel for.
Wu-International: So is this your first album
or do you have some materials that you have put out before
this?
Legend: This is the first official Indovizualz
album that will be available world wide but we've all had
several projects released locally over the years. Some of
the materials will be released in the future.
Wu-International: Was there any one producer or
artist that you wanted on this project that never come to
pass?
Legend: The RZA as a producer and MC, Method, Gza,
Ghostface, Killa Priest and we wanted Snoop but we could'nt
get him before the album was done.
Wu-International: A member of our forum Supashroomz
put us in tune with the Indovuzualz, and we have since got a
number of emails asking about the group, one of the requests
was how and where the fans in Europe, outside the Westcoast
and other parts of USA can get hold of this album?
Legend: You'll be able to get the actual CD
from CdBaby.com and downloads on Itunes etc...... it will be
available 4-20-09. Shout out to Supashroomz.
Wu-International: Do you have a single or video out
from this project?
Legend: Not yet we are in the process of
picking two songs for singles and video's we'll keep you
posted fo sho!!
Wu-International: With this album already done,
will it be safe to assume the group is currently working on
new materials, if so can you please tell us more about this?
Poison Ivy:
Yeah the second album is
already being recorded and we are looking to go deeper into
the Killa Beez Chamber with more Wu-Tang style tracks but of
course with the Indovizualz vibe running through it.
Wu-International: What other projects are The
Indovizualz working on as far as features, tours, movies,
mixtapes etc?
Legend: Currently we are putting a Promo tour
together for the album and booking show's all over the
world. To book the Indovizualz & the Killa Bee Gang Contact
Legend @ 562-303-2923 serious inquiry only!!!
Wu-International: Any of the members planning on
doing any solo projects?
Legend: Depending on the success of the group
if the fans call for it we'll give it to them! Til then we
focus as one unit
Wu-International: A related question, where you all
solo artists before the group or belonged previously or even
currently to any other groups?
Legend: We all were solo Artist
Wu-International: The West had the game on lock with
the era of Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, and so on but no group
outside these click have had such a major impact on the game
since, do you think the West coast is still being slept on
by the industry and your neighbours in the East?
Legend: Yes, but we are on the rise again and
the West Coast Killa Beez will be part of the new up-rising
in the West!! The West Coast Only have the West to blame for
it's fall so it's only right that we bring ourselves back
out! With us it's not a coast issue we want fans from all
over the world feel me!!!
Wu-International: As mentioned above, the fans all
over the world will now recognize the name and have started
paying attention to the group due to your Wu-Tang
affiliation, how does that make you feel being part of the
Wu legacy?
Legend: It's truly an honor to be part of the
Wu-Tang Family and we don't take it lightly, Rza and the OG
Generals of the Clan made history we just want to add to the
greatness!! D.I.M K.I.M!!!
Wu-International: Doc Doom (R.I.P) recently passed
away, did any of you personally know him and have anything
to say about him?
Legend: I knew Doc he was a good brother one of the
west's great Mc's we'll miss him fo sho R.I.P Doc. Peace and
love from the Indovizualz always!!
 |
Wu-International: A question for Poison Ivy, how does
it feel being the only female in the group, and do
you think female emcees have gotten their deserved
shine in the male dominated hip-hop game?
Poison Ivy: I love
being the only female in group and as far as female
Mc's getting the shine they deserve I feel they
don't get the proper recognition there's alot of
good female talent out there getting slept on
because the avenue for female artist is a narrow
rode to travel in the music game especially here on
the West Coast. But I'm pushing to make a change and
open doors for other female mc's out there til' then
it's all about the D.I.M K.I.M!!! |
Wu-International: Anything else you might
want to share with the fans that has not already been
covered?
Legend: We just want the fans to know the Indovizualz
