Interview

So who are the Yellow Jackets? Why was Christ Bearer screaming out the group's name on almost every sentence on our last interview? Prior to publishing the Christ Bearer's Yellow Jackets Interview, the fans were already writing and asking about the group due to their 'out of nowhere' impressive double contribution to the new Killa Beez compilation; The Swarm Part 3: Pollen. Labeled as RZA's newest group and the newest Wu-Tang movement all that was known up until now was that the group consisted of 11 to 13 members, which was lead by the likes of already known Wu-Tang affiliates Armel The Great, Christ Bearer and Meko The Pharaoh. Armel, a one time protégé of GZA/Genius belonged to the group known as C.O.I.N.s (Ancient Coins), which was part of the Wu family tree then known as United Kingdom (Population Click) that housed the likes of Sunz of Man, Royal Fam, Brooklyn Zu, Daddy Rose, Makeba Mooncycle and more. Christ Bearer and Meko on the other hand are collectively known as Northstar and were the first ever West Coast Killa Beez singed under The RZA alongside the Black Knights (Crisis, Warcloud, Doc Doom and Rugged Monk), which were initially put together as Black Knights of the Northern Star. What about the other members of the group the fans are not familiar with? With 13 members it will be a long and probably an exhausting read to breakdown all the members this very minute, however Wu-International linked up with one of the members to connect the dots outside what we already know with the DJ, Mc and producer known as $paceman. Part of the extended Black Knights family tree, $paceman has been doing his thing for a while and quickly gaining recognition with his varied style best described as Los Angeles streets meets lyrical with a touch of grime. $paceman gained more respect within the Wu and others when he stopped Slaughterhouse (Yes Joe Budden's group) from rushing the stage at the 2009 Rocks the Bells concert. Deescalating the situation and keeping the show on course, it was evident then that this artist, entrepreneur and business man was a family man first and rider for the Killa Beez movement.

As can been seen, Yellow Jackets is more than just West meets East, or Northstar meets COINs, It is all Wu or New Wu as it comes, Wu within Wu, how did Armel from New York link up with Northstar and other members to form the Yellow Jackets? what about the other members of Yellow Jackets? who are they, where are they from? how did they all connect? why did RZA see the need to bring together another group with this capacity of members? what is the meaning of Yellow Jackets?

The answer to these questions have been partially answered in the first interview and everything else answered on this exclusive interview with $paceman. Fans were pleased with what they heard from the songs released already, the buzz around the group is growing as they have been touring and recording with creating more buzz. A new movement has been born, a movement that is needed in a time like this, a collective of a-alikes coming together under the "W" for one common cause with different styles and approach to it. In continuation with West Coast Killa Beez series, find out why  $paceMan, Armel the great, J Justice, 2Real, Ram, 1Man, Voodou, ChristBearer, Meko, Skratch, Shaddow, Surpreme, and General Jihad are called Yellow Jackets and why they are relevant in today's game. Enjoy!!!

I like to say thanks first and foremost for taking the time to answer these questions, highly appreciated, and will also point out that nothing will be altered, edited or changed when this is published online.

Wu-International: Let's start off with the group questions and then proceed from there, can you kindly  introduce yourself to us and tell us about your group, affiliation, location etc?
$paceman: West, West Yellow Jacketz to def..  What it do? What it won't do? The Spacetravler has landed... Talk to me...I talk bacc… My group is the Yellow Jackets, West Coast Killah Beez, Harbor City Go Gang/ Killah Bee Gang affiliation, I'm from all parts of LA...from the gutta to the butta... But I rep my hood too…Harbor City.

Wu-International: Thanks, Yellow Jackets is what’s up right now, you have been featured on the new Swarm pt 3 project and Christbearer has been yelling the name all through our last interview, why is the group called Yellow Jackets?
$paceman: We are called Yellow Jacketz cuz’ we came from the Killah bee hive to swarm ya’ city, stage, and carry on the tradition of the Wu Tang Clan Foundation…

Wu-International: It’s a large group, how did the group’s formation come about, and whose initiative was it to put it together and why?
$paceman: We formed from branches of the two other groups from West Coast Wu, Black Knights and North Star and C.O.I.N.S, others who we knew they have natural talent to stand up in hip hop now in this day n' age... Lyrics still matter … The idea came from RZA to start a new movement ... and this was started with the help of Armel the Great & Christ Bearer (Black Box).

Wu-International:  So what are the criteria if any for being a member of the group, what qualities or connections did you need to become a Yellow Jacket member?
$paceman: Having knowledge of self and supreme mathematics ... Not just knowing it but also applying it to everyday life... I'm a hood nigga wit' knowledge of self ... I found myself with the Black Knights ... But I can say General Jihad showed me to the promise land and lead the way while I cut heads off on the journey through time n space ...

Wu-International: Interesting, Christ Bearer informed us that there were 13 members in Yellow Jackets; can you please give us the full list of its members as we have seen random list around on forums that are mostly guesses?
$paceman: Its 11 official members plus 2 unofficial making it 13 in total. the numbers varied for a while to see who our affiliates are gonna be, the core of the group will be on the next single. For now its me; $paceMan aka Universal Space, Armel the great, J Justice, 2Real, Ram, 1Man aka Koleon, Voodou, Christ Bearer, Meko Da Pharoa, Skratch, Shaddow, Surpreme, and General Jihad.

Wu-International: Thanks, can you please break down everyone’s role as we were told that it includes producers, singers, rappers and more?

$paceman:
Including myself, a few of the jackets make beats too, We have our own in-house producers as well,  2real and 1man + Voodoo make most of the tracks ... As far as singers they just gotta have the sound we looking for... We have affiliates’ of our own as well ... AA Is another and Blacqtoven from Gain Green Records.

Wu-International: Thanks, speaking of affiliates of YJ, Christ Bearer also said there were 7 female MCs know as Pink Jackets, can you please explain further, are these part of Yellow Jackets or a female branch of Yellow Jackets and can you kindly list their names please if you know them?

$paceman:
Pink Jackets aren’t ready for da’ world just yet, they are affiliates on their own right, when the time comes they can speak for themselves.

Wu-International: We only found out about the group last year November when we interviewed Christ Bearer before the Swarm 3 compilation track list came out, when was the group official put together or rather how long has the group being functioning as Yellow Jackets?
$paceman:
Since about Sept 09'... But we all came from the same grind ... So it's like a year in da' making ... All soldiers were put through test before they could even spit a rhyme.

Wu-International: How did the group get to feature on Swarm 3 and how involved is the RZA with the Yellow Jackets?
$paceman:
We’re basically RZA’s newest group … He loved the record we did for our projects and put us on the swarm compilation.

Wu-International: So is the group signed under Wu Music Group? If not are you on any label?
$paceman:
Wu is home … But it’s always good to have options…

Wu-International: Any reason as to why it was released only as a download?
$paceman:
Throughout the years, most of the vocals have been recorded throughout the years so we just put out what we had already.

Wu-International: YJ is now part of the wider extension of the West Coast Killah Beez, how do you relate to the members of Black Knights and their extended family on Black Ball'd?
$paceman: Yes we are all one, We all family ... We move as one then branch off to do us... and come back stronger. Just did a show with the whole Black Knights, Black Ball'd, West Coast Killa Beez not along ago.

Wu-International: Apart from Meko, Christbearer and Armel The Great who were already under Wu, the other names are pretty much new to the fans, what were you or others doing before Yellow Jacket?
$paceman: Me and Jihad have been making music for a while now.. I'm a rider from the Black Knights before Yellow Jackets, they could call on me for a few things ... I can only speak for myself. I've been grinding from da' hills to da' harbor promoting the group & myself ... Now we bout ta take this world wide.. WU WORLD ORDER...

Wu-International: With 13 members, how easy is it to record with all members or rather how or who decides who jumps on a song and what not?
$paceman: It’s easy … We have a formula … plus it’s who feels the vibe of the track…

Wu-International: Its easy to assume Christ Beare, or Armel are the leaders of the group? $paceman:  If everybody’s a boss…Who’s gonna clean the office?

Wu-International: Does the group have an album in works and if so, any title?
$paceman: Yea no doubt … Titles??? Not yet … But y’all will know first what we gonna call it.

Wu-International: How many songs deep are you and do you have a planned date of release?
$paceman: We ova 100 songs in right now … No date … But this year though if not next.

Wu-International: Interesting guest appearances (features and producers) you might want to share with us now?
$paceman: Yea' a few...The names will speak for themselves ... U gonna have to wait on da' album to find out ... But legends from West and East coast are already on it ... production squads too...

Wu-International: What would you say sets the Yellow Jackets apart from the rest of the groups out in hip-hop these days?
$paceman: First the number of us ... 13, and the diversity of Coasts and swag on da' track ... A West coast group at heart wit the influence of the Godz, East and West Coast.

Wu-International: Thanks for the group questions, now let’s focus more on $paceman, why are you called that?
$paceman: I'm like the missing link to the blunt brothers... Hahaha... I'm always in another realm on da' mic and in my physical ... Sunset Park the movie... That was me in school so it works ... And that good LA KUSH helps too keep me on my own plain…

Wu-International: How does it feel to be part of a great legacy such as Wu-Tang?
$paceman:  A BLESSING I WAS DESTINED FOR … I believe I was put here on this planet to have my voice heard … It feels like where I belong.

Wu-International:   You seem to have some solo songs already floating, do you already have something out or are you working on a solo project as well, if so please tell us more about this?

$paceman: I do... But the album I pulled it bacc … really to revamp and put under my label. My solo project "A WORLD BEYOND BELIEF” will be out soon after the YJ album ... My first artist under my label…"SPACED OUT ENTERTAINMENT” will be my brother JOOSE ... He da’ truth ... reppin’ SEATTLE WA…

Wu-International:   Any other members in the group working on a solo or have something already out you might want to share with us?
$paceman: I know they do … But they can speak on their own.

Wu-International: How did $paceman fall into his craft as an MC, what made you pick up the mic?
$paceman:
It's was DJ $paceman... I used to do parties and shit... At the end of most the party's I was spinning and rappin' at the same time ... I had to choose one or the other... One of My homies got me into battling at the same time I was in transition wit DJing... Then $P@C£ was born ... Shout out to my boy Webs!! and & 2nd State.

Wu-International: Christ Bearer compared the group to the new Wu-Tang, who is your favourite Clan member and if you were to compare yourself to any, who would that be?
$paceman:
Hahahahaha….That’s what it do … Can you say WU MASSACARE? It goes in any order…It’s hard for me to say what 9 planets Is my favourite, cuz I got luv for all the GODZ… I don’t compare myself to anyone in my crew or clan…but for face value like Mef, Devin Tha Dude, and Xzibit in one… but you can tell me better than I can tell you…Hahhaha

Wu-International: Westcoast Killa Bee Gang were just 2 groups but has rapidly grown over the past year, is this due to RZA and other Killah Beez now residing in that part of the State or any other reason?
$paceman:
Yea can say that's true... But I really think RZA has bigger plans for us... More than we know… We've been lying dormant like a virus in a cut waiting to spread the new West Wu sound to da’ world and let real fans know HIP HOP is NOT DEAD!

Wu-International: It’s been a lot of questions the fans wanted to know but for now we will end it here, anything else you will like to add or say that’s not been covered already?
$paceman:
Westside till I die!! Yellow Jacketz, Live strong, Wu-Tang forever, Peace to all the Killa Bee Gangz, Black Knights, Northstar, Indovizualz, Committee, my West Coast hip-hop homies, Cognac 69, Blaqthoven, Planet Asia, Hen Gee, Excel, Omar Cruz, Roscoe, Big O, and all the rest you know who you are, Get at me if you don't T $P@C£-OUT!!! ...
