Wu-Tang can be downright miserable, but the Sunz of Man put
out a couple of passable albums in the ‘90s that promptly
went out of print. Coming back for more, Prodigal Sunn goes
solo, although considering how many guest appearances there
are on his debut (two, sometimes three, on nearly every
track) it’s hard to call it solo album.
Opener “In My Life” is a pretty good R&B song, but past that
The Return of the Prodigal Sunn is mostly a routine stop on
the road to hip-hop. RZA offers up a beat on “Lovely
Ladies,” but it’s nothing special, and that really sounds
like Jay-Z on “Procrastinators.” If you aren’t going to try
something different musically or lyrically, why do you think
your beats and rhymes are so much better than everyone
